The ¹û¶³´«Ã½app ISD Literacy Work Group was established to develop a plan for literacy in the district. A Board-Approved AISD Strategic Priority for school year 2014–15 includes the implementation of the district literacy plan. The Literacy Work Group consists of 25 representatives from schools, district leadership and community members. Throughout the 2013–14 school year, the group completed a comprehensive needs assessment and developed a draft Literacy Action Plan made up of strategies that will support a culture of literacy in AISD.
As an initiative of the Literacy Work Group, ¹û¶³´«Ã½app ISD’s Office of Academics is hosting the district’s first for teachers and administrators from 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the Sheraton ¹û¶³´«Ã½app Hotel at the Capitol, 701 E. 11th St.
The summit will feature renowned literacy scholar Dr. Richard Allington, who will lead AISD teachers and administrators in addressing the needs of struggling readers and combating summer reading loss. The Literary Summit will also include the opportunity for teachers and administrators to review and give feedback on the district’s Literacy Action Plan draft.
If you are a teacher or administrator with ¹û¶³´«Ã½app ISD, please register to attend now! The summit is at about 75 percent capacity. You can register at HCP with the section number 63524. If you are unable to join us, the summit will be recorded and available for viewing after the event.
