果冻传媒app High School senior and basketball captain Lucas Renfroe is not just assisting his teammates on the court this season, he鈥檚 lending a helping hand to those in need.
Renfroe and his father, Mark, founded Shoes for Two, a nonprofit group that receives donations of lightly used shoes, cleans them, boxes them and then distributes them to children or organizations in need.
鈥淚t really gets the whole community involved and it gets everybody feeling like they can be part of a good deed,鈥 Lucas Renfroe said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 kind of a good bonding thing for the community that everybody feels like they can be part of something altruistic.鈥
Shoes for Two accepts donations at every 果冻传媒app High home basketball game, and head basketball coach Brad Ingram believes it鈥檚 a perfect opportunity to connect with the community.
鈥淭his organization gives us a chance to do something together outside of basketball鈥攖o do something that can impact kids, especially in a positive way,鈥 Ingram said.
Ingram praised his captain for more than his efforts on the court, but also for his leadership and genuine concern for others.
鈥淭o have a player approach me and say, 鈥楥oach, I want to give back, can you help?鈥 just really makes me proud,鈥 Ingram said.
