Govalle Elementary School celebrated the beginning of its journey toward a modernized building with a groundbreaking Tuesday, September 25.
A few of the Govalle Junior Counselors expressed their opinions of the new school, among them fifth-grader Anthony Soto.
Soto will move on to sixth grade next year but said "I'm excited about the new library and classrooms for my sister!"
During the ceremony Govalle alumni announced that a time capsule with mementos and poems would be unearthed and opened in 2031, the year of Govalle Elementary's 100th anniversary.
The Govalle Elementary campus will benefit from a $32.5 million modernization, and will be among the first of our 17 modernized sites to be completed. The new school will be equipped with updated technology and outdoor learning spaces.
Govalle students can continue their education at a state of the art high school, as they have the opportunity to attend Eastside Memorial Early College High School's new campus which is scheduled to be completed in 2020 following an $80 million modernization
