¹û¶³´«Ã½app Schools Celebrate Youth Art Month

In celebration of Youth Art Month 2011, more than 1,500 works of student art — representing 111 elementary, middle, and high schools — will be displayed in a public show, March 4-28, at One Congress Plaza, located at 111 Cesar Chavez.

Painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, collage, weaving, ceramics, photography, jewelry and electronic media are included in the art show. It will be open for viewing from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays A reception for exhibiting artists and their families will be held on Sunday, March 6, from 1-3 p.m.  


The District’s annual Art Tee-Shirt was created this year by Casis Elementary School student Jakob Geissler. It displays the 2011 Youth Art Month theme, Art is Electric! Youth Art Monthwill be also represented with 10 outdoor billboards designed by Nicholas Olivares, a ninth grade art student at McCallum High School. The billboards will be displayed through the month of April in the following locations around ¹û¶³´«Ã½app:

Art strands in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills — state curriculum standards — include artistic perception, response/evaluation, creative expression, and history and culture. By studying art styles from pre-historic to modern times, ¹û¶³´«Ã½app students have incorporated art history into their own cultural and personal styles. They have learned to express themselves and their traditions and invent beauty through their art creations.
