AISD Students Earn National and State Honors

¹û¶³´«Ã½app, TX—The ¹û¶³´«Ã½app Independent School District's Board of Trustees celebrate the achievements of students who excel both inside and outside of the classroom. More than 50 students were recognized during tonight's board meeting for receiving national and state honors.

UIL State Competitions

Wrestling Meet

Bowie High School – Brian Dorsey, second place; Evalynn Reyna, third place; and Will Becker, third place

Akins High School – Michelle Guerrero, second place

Swimming and Diving Meet

LBJ High School/Liberal Arts Science Academy – Kevin Ku, fourth place

Business Professionals of America State Conference

Kealing Middle School – Devan Andrews and Miracle Wright earned first place in Team Intro to Video Production

Martin Middle School – Jennifer Padron earned second place in Extemporaneous Speech

Pearce Middle School – Chinyelu Egbuonye and Kathlina Beam earned first place in Team Career Research Project; and Rosa Secundino earned first place in Prepared Speaking

Scholastic Art and Writing Awards – National Winners

¹û¶³´«Ã½app High School – Othon Tejeda, Gold Key award

McCallum High School – Michelle Deaver, Silver Key award

Their work was chosen from 250,000 entries to win the national awards and they will be honored at a ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

To recognize Youth Art Month, the district organized three major art activities. The theme, "Art Makes Waves!" was adopted for this year's T-shirt and "The Sky's the Limit" was the theme chosen for the billboard design. Duy Ho, a 4th grade art student at Cunningham Elementary school, designed the 2012 Youth Art Month T-shirt and Julia Lund, a 10th grade student at Bowie High school, designed the billboard.

During Youth Art Month, the Texas Art Education Association hosts the Visual Arts Scholastic Event to recognize exemplary student achievement in visual arts. This year, 31 ¹û¶³´«Ã½app ISD students were named first place winners.

Anderson High School - Callie Carson, Jenna D'aniello, Marco Figueroa, Christina Friar, Scott Lindauer, Julia Meitz, Elvis Rodriguez and Ellen Romero

Bowie High School - Jazzmin Agyayo, Brook Blue, Lily Craymer, Sofia Eichelmann, Katie Floyd and Danie Hammer

Liberal Arts Science Academy High School - Dexter Becklund and Katherine Nehyba

McCallum High School - Bianca Breed, Elizabeth Campos, Camille Cannell, Michaela Ford-Howse, Mohammad Javanmardi, Sylvia Lee, Leo Levy, Sara Moore, Nicholas Olivares, Breana Pettas-Cauthern, Robert Renfro, Vivian Stephens, Catherine Turner and Tillie Walden

The Texas Art Education Association also selects pieces of art from across the state to represent outstanding art accomplishments which are displayed at the Texas Capitol. Yannet Munoz, LBJ High School; Gil Radilla, Paredes Middle School; Richard Alvarez, Ortega Elementary School; Bella Clayton, Mathews Elementary School; and Caroline Chomel, Summitt Elementary School had their art work chosen for this prestigious exhibit.
