AISD Students Outscore State Average on ACT and SAT; Largest Gain in National Exams is 43 Points on SAT Writing Exam

果冻传媒app, TX鈥Students in the 果冻传媒app Independent School District continue to score higher on the SAT and ACT exams than their counterparts across the state, according to data released today by the College Board.

The 2012 average SAT score for AISD students was 1496鈥攇reater than the average state score of 1434 and comparable to the national average score of 1498. Students who took the ACT exam performed equally well with a composite score of 21.4, exceeding the state and national averages of 20.8 and 21.1, respectively.

The number of students who took the SAT and ACT exams remained stable or increased after reaching a record high in 2011. For the SAT, AISD student participation remained steady. There was an increase in test participation among students who identified themselves as Mexican/Mexican American, selected other, or provided no racial identification. For the ACT, participation increased by 198 students.

鈥淎ISD will continue to encourage and prepare students to participate in the SAT and ACT exams because we are committed to ensuring all of our students are ready for college, career and life,鈥 AISD Superintendent Meria Carstarphen said. 鈥淭he SAT and ACT play a critical role in the college admissions process. And, we are pleased that more AISD graduates are choosing to attend colleges and universities. The district will continue to increase the number of college-bound graduates because, in today's global economy, higher education provides a powerful path to success."

Students鈥 scores on the SAT subject area tests were generally stable or increased since last year. For 2012, the largest increase was in the writing subject area with students scoring an average of 523鈥43 points higher than last year. Students鈥 average critical reading score increased by four points to 497. Students鈥 average math score increased by two points to 523.

AISD students鈥 average ACT scores increased slightly across the English, reading and science subject areas and remained stable in the math subject area. Since 2005, scores have increased by 1 to 1.7 points on average across subject areas. AISD鈥檚 average ACT scores exceeded state and average scores in every area and exceeded national, average ACT math, reading, science and composite scores.

SAT Test Results, 2011鈥12

Across campuses, SAT test scores varied, ranging between 1117 at Reagan High School and 1948 at the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA). The SAT benchmark score of 1550 or higher has been determined to predict a high likelihood of college success and completion, according to the College Board. Between 2011 and 2012, average SAT scores remained about the same for most schools. The Top 5 institutions to which AISD students submitted SAT score reports are (from highest): Texas State University, University of Texas at 果冻传媒app, University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas A&M University at College Station, and Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

ACT Test Results, 2011鈥12

Across campuses, the average ACT composite scores varied, ranging between 16.1 at LBJ High School and 28.4 at LASA. Bowie had the highest participation rate with 249 students taking the exam, while fewer than five students took the ACT exam at Eastside Memorial. Between 2011 and 2012, average ACT scores increased for six schools, and decreased for four schools.
