Baldwin Elementary School students and staff members hosted their first annual Vocabulary Parade as part of the school's ongoing effort to increase word recognition among its students.
The concept for the parade, held Oct. 31, was based on Debra Frasier’s book, “Miss Alaineus, A Vocabulary Disaster,” in which a student confuses the word "miscellaneous" for the person, Miss Alaineus. In the story, embarrassment is assuaged by turning the mistake into a winning costume at the Vocabulary Parade.
Baldwin Elementary serves 725 students in Southwest ýapp. Established in 2010, the school places a strong emphasis on strengthening reading and writing skills.
Students and staff at the school have been learning new vocabulary everyday and were excited to wear costumers to represent their vocabulary words.
