AISD Board Approves Single-Sex Schools

Updates 2013-14 School Calendar

¹û¶³´«Ã½app, TX— Tonight, The ¹û¶³´«Ã½app Independent School District’s Board of Trustees voted to approve an updated 2013-14 school district calendar, the use of 2004 and 2008 contingency funds, and also took action on Final Annual Academic and Facilities Recommendations.

Trustees approved a revision to the spring break 2013-14 calendar. AISD changed the dates of spring break to match the University of Texas at ¹û¶³´«Ã½app’s calendar.

The board approved the use of 2004 and 2008 contingency funds for critical facility renovation projects and facilities improvements. Currently, there is a balance of approximately $9.1 million.

The board also considered two Annual Academic and Facilities Recommendations on single-sex education. Trustees approved single-sex program designs for the Garcia and Pearce middle schools and voted in favor of the School for Young Men proposal starting in the school year 2014-15.  

Additionally, trustees voted to implement a statutory provision that requires end of course (EOC) assessment performance to count for 15 percent of a student’s final grade. This is the second year that the requirement has been deferred.
