AISD Trustees Approve Nine Principal Appointments in March-April

This week, ¹û¶³´«Ã½app ISD's Board of Trustees approved six new principal appointments at five elementary schools and one middle school. The appointments are effective July 2013. The recent appointments bring the total number approved by the board during March and April to nine. 

Trustees approved the following principal appointments:

Valerie Borchers as principal of Becker Elementary School. Borchers has served as assistant principal of Perez Elementary School for the past five years. She has a total of 21 years of experience in public education, most of which has been in Title I schools. She holds a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Texas at ¹û¶³´«Ã½app.

Samuel Tinnon as principal of Casis Elementary School. Tinnon has served as the assistant principal for Mills Elementary School for the past nine years. He also has served as an elementary and middle school AISD summer school administrator, a mentor summer school principal to six principals, an administrative intern at Mills and Sims elementary schools, and a teacher at Pecan Springs Elementary Schools. Tinnon holds a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Texas at ¹û¶³´«Ã½app.

Kate Shaum as principal of Galindo Elementary School. Ms. Shaum is serving as an administrative supervisor in the AISD Area 2 Schools Office. Prior to this assignment, Shaum served as an elementary school assistant principal at both Pillow and Barrington elementary schools. She holds a master's degree in educational administration from Tarleton State University.

Ana Candelaria as principal of Harris Elementary School. She brings to the position six years of experience as an elementary campus administrator (three years as principal) and ten years of experience at the elementary and middle school levels. She holds a master's degree in education, guidance and counseling from the University of Texas at El Paso.

Grace Martino-Brewster as principal of Mathews Elementary School. Martino-Brewster has seven years of administrative experience and six years of teaching experience on both elementary and middle school campuses. Her experience includes instructional specialist, child study team facilitator, and positive behavior support program specialist. She holds a master's degree in educational administration from the University of Texas at ¹û¶³´«Ã½app.

Leslie Dusing as principal of Dobie Middle School. Dusing is principal of Bernice Hart Elementary School, and she has served as principal of Blanton Elementary School. She brings 14 years of administrative experience (11 years as a principal), as well as experience as a bilingual and ESL teacher. Dusing holds a master's in education from Tarleton State A&M University.

Principal appointments approved during the board’s March 18 meeting: 

Jenny DeLaune Daniels, as principal of Davis Elementary School, where she serves as interim principal. Prior to this position, Daniels was the assistant principal at Davis for five years. She also has served as a director of a local preschool and an elementary classroom teacher. She has 23 years of experience in education and a master’s in educational administration from Texas State University.  

Angelo San Segundo, as principal of Wooten Elementary School. San Segundo has 18 years of experience in public education, with much of that time dedicated to Title I schools with similar demographics to Wooten. San Segundo serves as an administrative supervisor in AISD’s Area 2 schools’ office. Prior to this, he was an assistant principal at both Brown and Winn elementary schools. He also has served as a summer school principal, bilingual teacher and a counselor. San Segundo has a master’s of science in management and a master’s of science in school counseling from Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Dedra Standish, as principal of Summitt Elementary School, where she currently serves as interim principal. Standish was the assistant principal at Summitt for four years. She also has been a special education teacher and instructional coordinator for AISD. She brings to her new position more than seven years of administrative experience and 13 years of special education teaching experience. Standish has a master’s in education from the University of Texas at ¹û¶³´«Ã½app.
