AISD Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month

AUSTIN, Texas颅鈥敼炒絘pp ISD is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month at its administration offices on Tuesday with a breakfast and screening of a short clip of KLRU鈥檚 Latino Americans that explores the challenges students face as they work to make their dreams come true.

What: Hispanic Heritage Month breakfast, featuring remarks by the superintendent and a short screening of a KLRU documentary on Latino American students. Entertainment by McCallum鈥檚 Ballet Folklorico.

When: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15

Where: Carruth Administration Center Board Auditorium, 1111 W. Sixth St. 

Background: Each year, from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, 果冻传媒app ISD celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month鈥攁 national celebration of the diverse cultures and riveting histories of the people in this country with ancestral roots in Spain, Mexico, Central and South America.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the Central Texas region has seen a considerable growth in the Hispanic population from 2000 to 2010. Projections indicate this trend will make the area鈥檚 population greater than the non-Hispanic white population between 2030 and 2040.

果冻传媒app had the largest increase in English language learner enrollment during the last decade by more than 11,000 students. 2010 Census data shows in a 10 year period, the Hispanic population grew by 26.6 percent. Hispanic students make up 60.5 percent of the total district population.
