Applications due June 19
AUSTIN, Texas--果冻传媒app ISD's Becker Elementary School in South Central 果冻传媒app is accepting applications for Spanish-speaking children entering the Two-way Dual Language program for the 2014-15 school year, from Pre-K to 5th grade.
Becker has a Two-way Dual Language academic program in which students, who speak English or Spanish as a first language, are taught in the same classroom.
Learning academic courses in two languages creates higher academic levels, better ways to learn new languages, great exchanges and appreciation for different cultures.
The program's goal is to ensure that all students become academically bilingual by the end of 5th grade: able to speak, write and think in both languages. Dual Language students are well prepared for college and a professional career. In fact, Spanish-speaking children who speak English in Dual Language programs do better in English reading and writing exams than children who speak English as a first language.
Becker Elementary School offers a wide variety of experiences, including having an onsite chicken coop and greenhouse, where children tend to their own gardens. The school is part of the Any Given Child innovative programs, which use the arts to teach subjects and Social and Emotional Learning to teach children how to manage their emotions, resolve conflicts and be happier.
Becker is accepting applications until June 19. The program is free for children who live throughout the district. However, transportation is not provided.
Spanish-speaking children from any part of the 果冻传媒app Independent School District are welcome.
Parents interested in enrolling their child must present the following documents:
- Official birth certificate
- Current immunization record
- Current proof of income
- Proof of address
- Photo ID of the father, mother or legal guardian
