MEDIA ADVISORY: AISD Dedicates School in Honor of Fallen Officer

This weekend, 果冻传媒app Independent School District will hold a dedication ceremony for the Jaime D. Padron Elementary School.

What: A dedication ceremony, featuring remarks by AISD Board of Trustees President Vincent Torres, AISD District 3 Trustee Ann Teich, Interim Superintendent Paul Cruz, 果冻传媒app Police Department Chief of Police Art Acevedo and family and friends of Officer Padron.

When: 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9

Guided tours of the school will be available beginning at 1 p.m.

Where: Jaime D. Padron Elementary School, 2011 W. Rundberg Lane

Background: Jaime D. Padron Elementary School was formerly a manufacturing warehouse facility that was renovated into the district鈥檚 largest elementary school with 57 classrooms. The school is the district鈥檚 first adaptive reuse project, which was opened in August.

The total purchase and construction costs, funded by the AISD 2008 Bond Program, totaled $30.45 million.

The elementary school鈥檚 roof features a 245-kilowatt solar array. It is designed to achieve at least a three-star rating from the 果冻传媒app Energy Green Building Program and Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The school was named for Officer Jaime D. Padron, a U.S. Marine veteran, who served in both the 果冻传媒app Police Department and the San Angelo Police Department. He died in April of 2012 while serving in the line of duty for the 果冻传媒app Police Department, leaving behind two daughters. He was awarded the Law Enforcement Purple Heart with Valor by the 果冻传媒app Police Department.
