AISD Hosts Hispanic Futures Conference for Students and Families

Parents鈥 expectations critical to student success

Each year,  hosts the Hispanic Futures conference and career fair to offer families the tools and resources they will need for students to be successful in college, career and life.

What: AISD has partnered with the , , ,  and  to present the Hispanic Futures conference and career fair. This year鈥檚 theme is 鈥淓xploring STEAM,鈥 focusing on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.

Who: Cynthia Rubio, president of Radiant RFID, will deliver the keynote address. She leads an 果冻传媒app-based company that specializes in radio frequency identification, which allows data to be transferred wirelessly in chips or tags. Earlier this month, Rubio spoke at SXSW Interactive about Hispanic entrepreneurship.

When: 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28

Where: Delco Center, 4601 Pecan Brook Drive

Background:  About 60 percent of AISD students are Hispanic. According to a district study, almost 30 percent of Hispanic seniors indicated that their parents鈥 expectations were the most important factor keeping them in school, compared with 16 percent of non-Hispanic seniors.

Through Hispanic Futures, AISD works with community partners to provide information, workshops and interactive experiences that can help students and families focus their efforts on activities that will pave the way for a successful future.

This year鈥檚 participants include: Applied Materials, the Art Institutes, Dub Academy, AT&T, Girlstart, Google Fiber, Mexic-Arte Museum, IBM, Intel, National Instruments, Programming with Lego Robots, Texas State Technical College, the University of Texas at 果冻传媒app and Skillpoint Alliance.
