AISD Will Accept Transfer Requests Jan. 4–29

Planning for next school year begins now

AISD will accept transfer requests for the 2016-17 school year from Jan. 4–29.

Families may request a sibling*, tracking*, majority-to-minority*, or general transfers during this time. Priority transfers will be processed first, followed by general transfers.

Beginning with the 2016-17 school year, majority-to-minority transfers will be based on available space.

Deadlines and requirements for magnet or application programs, such as LASA, a fine arts program, or dual-language, can be obtained from the specific campus.

In December 2014, the AISD Board of Trustees adopted a policy allowing for out-of-district transfers. Qualifying students who reside outside AISD boundaries are able to transfer into any AISD school with availability, which is a majority of district campuses.  Out-of-district transfer requests will be accepted beginning Feb. 1.

Requests may be submitted to the Office of Student Services, Carruth Administration Center, 1111 W. Sixth St., Room A-200, during regular business hours, 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

All requests for transfers received Jan. 4–29 will be given equal consideration, regardless of when the request is submitted.

For more information, including required documentation, please visit austinisd.org/transfer or call the Office of Student Services at 512-414-1726.

###

*A sibling transfer request can be made for siblings of students who are, or will be, attending the requested school at the same time on an approved transfer.

Students who have transferred to another school and who have a history of at least two unbroken years of attendance in the two highest grades offered at the school may request a tracking transfer to the next level (i.e., to a middle school from an elementary school or to a high school from a middle school) to remain with their peers.

Majority-to-minority transfer allows students to transfer from a school where the student's ethnic group is more than 50 percent of the school's population to a school where the student's ethnic group is less than 50 percent of the school's population.
